CSTO, CIS, SCO discuss security in Eurasia

MOSCOW, 9 October (BelTA) - A traditional meeting of senior administrative officials of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in Moscow on 9 October, BelTA learned from the CSTO press service.

The meeting was attended by CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov, CIS Secretary General Sergei Lebedev, SCO Deputy Secretary General Nurlan Yermekbayev.

"In a friendly atmosphere the heads of the executive bodies of the three largest Eurasian organizations exchanged views on topical issues of the international agenda and shared the experience in priority areas of activity, discussed proposals for further development and strengthening mutual cooperation in regional security and countering new challenges and threats," the press service said.

Imangali Tasmagambetov, in particular, noted that the three Eurasian regional organizations have a common task, namely to strengthen security and stability in a significant part of the Eurasian continent, including through the development of partnerships. The similarity of the basic political principles and key provisions of the CSTO and CIS charters with the "Shanghai spirit" was especially emphasized.

"The heads of the secretariats of the ‘troika’ share the opinion that the regional organizations in the field of security are to play an increasingly important role in maintaining global peace, preventing and overcoming instability. The three organizations together, each in its own domain, seek to build a new Eurasian architecture of security, economy and in the humanitarian field. Thus, Eurasia will ensure the alignment of the integration projects and harmonization of relations between the development centers," the press service added.
