MINSK, 28 October (BelTA) – Belarusian Labor and Social Security Minister Irina Kostevich made a welcoming speech at the 34th web-based meeting of the CIS Advisory Board on Labor, Employment and Social Security, BelTA learned from the press service of the ministry.
Irina Kostevich noted that 2021 is a jubilee year for the CIS as the Commonwealth celebrates the 30th anniversary.
"This year the Republic of Belarus is holding the chairmanship in the CIS. This implies special responsibility for coordinating actions to develop coherent approaches in the CIS to address pressing issues, strengthen cooperation for the comprehensive and balanced economic and social development of the participating states, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals," the minister said.
"Taking into account the priority tasks, we have stepped up efforts to develop a common labor market and to create the necessary conditions for self-realization of the younger generation. Great emphasis is placed on expanding cooperation in social protection. Relevant issues have been included in the agenda of today's meeting," Irina Kostevich said.
In her statement, she highlighted the main outcomes of the board's work this year.
On 28 May, the CIS signed the agreement on cooperation in employment promotion, the first multilateral document on employment issues in the history of the CIS.
By the decision of the CIS Economic Council of 18 June 2021, the CIS approved the plan of main measures to execute the CIS conceptual framework for cooperation in labor rate setting for 2021-2025.
On 20 October, the Commission on Economic Affairs under the CIS Economic Council approved the draft quality of life standards.
The recommendations have been drafted to bolster on-the-job safety of vulnerable groups - persons under 18 and women.
The minister thanked everyone for the work done, wished further success and handed the chairmanship in the CIS Advisory Board on Labor, Employment and Social Security over to the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The 34th web-based meeting of the CIS Advisory Board on Labor, Employment and Social Security brought together representatives of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, the General Confederation of Trade Unions, CIS Interstate Statistical Committee and the Executive Committee of the CIS.
During the meeting, the board members report on the progress in the implementation of action plans, outline tasks for the future, exchange information on the social and labor situation in their countries, share experience in improving the legal framework, measures to increase guarantees, monetary incomes and living standards of citizens, the use of various models of social support, the measures for a joint response to humanitarian and socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The board also discusses the creation of new jobs in the CIS countries, the measures to introduce mechanisms for organized employment of citizens, to control migration in order to form the CIS common labor market and to regulate remote work.
