VITEBSK, 27 May (BelTA) – Polotsk will host the international scientific conference “Savior-St Euphrosyne Convent in Polotsk in the history and Culture of Belarus" on 27-28 May 2025, BelTA learned from the Polotsk District Executive Committee.
"The event marks the 900th anniversary of the founding of the Savior-St Euphrosyne Convent in Polotsk. It will also explore the life path of its founder - the Venerable Euphrosyne of Polotsk, who left a significant mark on culture, education and enlightenment in the Belarusian lands. The conference will bring together more than 70 researchers from the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation," the Polotsk district administration said.
The conference aims to comprehend the significance of the monastery and its founder in the context of historical, religious and cultural development of Belarus and East Slavic peoples and lands. The forum has been organized by the Belarusian Orthodox Church, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Euphrosyne of Polotsk State University (PSU), and the Minsk Theological Academy.
The conference will be preceded by a ceremony to dedicate a special postage stamp in honor of the 900th anniversary of the Savior-St Euphrosyne Convent in Polotsk at 11:30 a.m. in the Polotsk university. The plenary session will begin at 12:00 in the same building. After lunch, the participants will go on a sightseeing tour of Polotsk and the monastery. The next day, 28 May, the conference will work in sections. The speakers will deliver reports about the role of the holy monastery in the context of Belarusian and Orthodox history and the development of the church from the end of the 18th century to the present day, the importance of traditional spiritual values in the development of science, culture and education.
