Conference in Minsk discusses cross-border crime, ways to tackle it

MINSK, 30 October (BelTA) – Minsk is hosting an international conference to discuss legal problems of cooperation between the border agencies of the CIS member states in tackling cross-border crime on 30 October, BelTA has learned.

The conference is being held under the auspices of the CIS Council of Border Guard Troops Commanders. According to Sergei Zhilinsky, the head of Belarus' Border Guard Service Institute, the conference brought together high-level delegations, including the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure. Participating in the conference are also the leadership of the Coordination Service of the CIS Council of Border Guard Troops Commanders, the State Secretariat of the Security Council of Belarus, representatives of the border guard agencies of the CIS countries and heads of higher educational institutions of the Belarusian security forces. "Today we face the risks and challenges at our borders, including cross-border crime. We will be able to work out concrete steps for improving our border security only together, by discussing these issues," he emphasized.

Sergei Zhilinsky also added that the conference focuses on ways of strengthening cooperation between the border agencies of the CIS member states. "We need to discuss the current problems and work out proposals for the heads to implement them in the practical activities of the border agencies," he said.

Sergei Zhilinsky also emphasized that the conference will pay special attention to modern technologies and the training of the officer corps and specialists skilled in the use of modern means of state border protection. "We have already started training operators of unmanned aerial vehicles and spesiatists anti-drone warfare," he noted.
