MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – Subdivisions of the Investigative Committee are carrying out preliminary investigation into citizen complaints about use of force and special means during unauthorized mass events, BelTA learned from the information department of the Prosecutor General's Office.
These probes are designed to study the situation objectively, fully and comprehensively and to establish the presence or absence of elements of crime in the actions of law enforcement while detaining, transporting and keeping citizens in temporary detention facilities after their participation in unauthorized mass events. Each probe is overseen by prosecution agencies.
An inter-agency commission was set up to coordinate and facilitate the effort to look into the circumstances described in the citizen complaints. The commission will work under the umbrella of the General Prosecutor's Office and will include representatives of the General Prosecutor's Office, the Investigative Committee and the State Forensic Examination Committee. Members of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament will also be involved in the work of the commission.
