Commemorative meeting in Brest Fortress

MINSK, 22 June (BelTA) - The commemorative meeting  "Be Worthy of the Memory of the Fallen" is taking place at the Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex on the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People.

Thousands of Brest residents and guests of the city consider it their duty to come to the fortress on the night of 22 June. People come from different parts of Belarus, from near and far abroad to honor the memory of all those who fought for peace on Earth. About 40 official delegations arrived in Brest. People walked a kind of memory road from the Star entrance to the Ceremonial Square where the commemorative meeting began.
Preparation for this landmark event took the creative team about six months. The program is conditionally divided into four blocks: it takes you from the present to the tragic past. About 1,000 people are involved in the musical and theatrical performance, including soloists, creative groups, military personnel, military-historical re-enactors. For the first time, students of the Shchepkin Higher Theater School (Moscow, Russia) are taking part in an event in Brest Fortress.
"We remember not only those who died. In general, we honor the feat of the Soviet people, the victims of the genocide of the Belarusian people. We use both traditional and new forms. We use light, music, choreography and other genres for artistic expression," the organizers said.
Another event in the program on 22 June is the military-historical re-enactment of the defense of the Brest Fortress. It will begin at about five o'clock in the morning. Viewers will see key episodes of the defense of the legendary citadel over the Bug River.
