Collective Security Treaty Organization strategic command post training session in progress

MOSCOW, 12 March (BelTA) – A strategic command post training session is taking place in the Collective Security Treaty Organization on 12-13 March under the supervision of Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, Colonel-General Andrei Serdyukov. Participants of the training session are supposed to practice stabilizing the situation in the Central Asia collective security region in conditions of a looming crisis situation, BelTA has learned.

CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov stated that the training session is taking place in a complicated international situation. “Old conflicts are getting exacerbated in various parts of the world and new tension areas are being provoked, including in the CSTO responsibility area. Modern crises become hybrid ones more and more often and require complex approaches to their resolution,” he said.

According to the secretary general, one of the most important goals of the training session is to adjust the procedure for collective anticrisis actions and evaluate their effectiveness taking into account provisions of the resolution on measures to develop a crisis response system in the Collective Security Treaty Organization that the CSTO Collective Security Council passed on 23 November 2023.

The chief of the CSTO Joint Staff noted that, in particular, the strategic command post training session is a key event that determines the feed data for preparing the Indestructible Brotherhood 2024 command post exercise for the CSTO peacekeeping forces that will take place in Kazakhstan this autumn.

Press Secretary of the CSTO Joint Staff Vladislav Shchegrikovich said: “An educational military, political, and strategic situation has been created for the sake of the training session. The training session is modelled on how potential threats in the organization’s responsibility area may escalate, including the emergence of a crisis situation in a simulated country of the Central Asia collective security region. In line with the concept the president of the country, which is a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, will contact the chairman of the Collective Security Treaty Organization with a request for aid. An extraordinary session of the CSTO Collective Security Council authorized a peacekeeping operation. With this in mind a crisis response center and operational teams of the member states have been deployed.”

Participants of the strategic command post training session will practice preparing proposals and draft resolutions of CSTO bodies on launching the peacekeeping operation. Close attention is paid to the formation of the collective peacekeeping forces, the procedure for their regrouping and deployment in the conflict area, and the provision of military and technical aid.
