Closing of Larnaca airport does not affect Belavia's flight schedule

MINSK, 29 March (BelTA) – The national air carrier Belavia does not operate charter flights to Larnaca, Igor Cherginets, Deputy Director General for Marketing and Foreign Economic Affairs at Belavia, told BelTA when commenting on the closing of the Larnaca airport after the hijacking of an EgyptAir flight.

“We operate regular flights to Larnaca on Saturdays. I believe that by Saturday the situation will get back to normal and the airport will resume its service,” Igor Cherginets noted.

According to media reports, Larnaca International Airport has been closed after the hijacked EgyptAir A320 Airbus landed there. All scheduled flights are redirected to Paphos and the airports of neighboring countries.

According to preliminary information, the EgyptAir plane was hijacked by one person. The Airbus A320 was carrying 81 passengers. Eight Britons were on board the plane as well as ten US citizens. The Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said there were no Belarusian nationals on board the hijacked Egyptian airliner.

Almost all of the passengers have been released.
