CIS observer describes preparations for Belarus’ elections as well organized

MINSK, 16 February (BelTA) – Preparation for the parliamentary and local elections in Belarus is organized at a high level, the CIS international observer Toktosun Sabirov said, BelTA has learned.

The CIS long-term observers held a meeting with the leadership of the Communist Party of Belarus on 15 February. Aleksei Sokol, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus noted that the Belarusian Communist Party had gone through many election campaigns. “In every campaign we met with OSCE representatives and showed them how the election campaign was running. We tried to demonstrate an objective situation in terms of electoral process in Belarus during the presidential and parliamentary elections. However, their findings were always biased,” he commented on the non-invitation of OSCE observers to upcoming elections.

He pointed out that the CIS observers make an objective assessment of the elections: “Everything is open and clear. When observers arrive, they see how the election campaign is running. If there are some flaws, CIS observers can give advice. They hold a lot of meetings, including today's meeting.”

CIS international observer Toktosun Sabirov noted that this was the third office of the political party that CIS long-term observers visited: “Today we saw the constructive, professional and efficient work of the party. We also noted the high readiness of Belarusian Communists for the elections. We will pass our assessments to the CIS observation mission, which will summarize them after the elections.”

He recalled that the CIS observation mission was deployed on 22 January. “I visited Osipovichi as a member of the monitoring group. We took part in the work of a district election commission. In general, we had a good impression. The work was conducted at a high organizational and technical level. We did not have any remarks with regard to their work,” Toktosun Sabirov stated.
