MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The election campaign in Belarus is running calmly, the head of the CIS observation mission Leonid Anfimov said on the air of the STV TV channel on 11 February, BelTA has learned.

“This election campaign is running very calmly. There are much fewer complaints. The Supreme Court received only six of them. We examined these complaints in detail. They are not quite founded. It is quite logical that they were declined as ungrounded,” Leonid Anfimov noted.

According to him, the Prosecutor General's Office received only two complaints that were quite biased. “They are not even complaints, but assessments of the current electoral legislation of Belarus and the procedure of nomination of candidates,” he said.

Leonid Anfimov pointed out that 186 people have already registered as observers with the CIS mission. “Although we earlier announced that there would be about 150 people. This figure has long been exceeded because, indeed, the CIS countries have a genuine interest in the current Belarusian election campaign. Probably, people want to see with their own eyes the peaceful life of a common citizen in our country,” the head of the CIS mission said.

“In professional terms, the observation mission includes the heads and members of the central election commissions of the CIS countries, representatives and heads of state bodies, and members of parliament. These are highly professional people,” Leonid Anfimov stressed.
