MINSK, 18 September (BelTA) - Military cooperation of the CIS member states is an integral part and an important factor in the safe development of each member state and the CIS in general, said Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces - First Deputy Defense Minister of Belarus Pavel Muraveiko, BelTA has learned.
Minsk is hosting a regular meeting of the Air Defense Coordinating Committee under the CIS Defense Ministers Council.
The meeting is considering a number of issues, including the improvement of the activities of the Air Defense Coordinating Committee under the CIS Defense Ministers Council. The participants of the meeting are also set to discuss issues related to joint military personnel training, joint operational and combat training activities in 2025, and also to take stock of the progress in scientific activities.
“According to Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko, maintaining interethnic peace is one of the priorities of the state policy. This principle is shared by all the CIS member states. The inseparability of positions of our states and defense ministries on a number of fundamental issues, including the military sector, is of particular relevance in this regard,” Pavel Muraveiko said.
According to the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, military cooperation of the CIS member states is an integral part and an important factor in the safe development of each member state and the CIS in general.
“Undoubtedly, one of the most important areas of cooperation in the military sector is interaction in air defense. The key role in air defense issues belongs to the Air Defense Coordinating Committee under the CIS Defense Ministers Council,” he said.
Thanks to the Air Defense Coordinating Committee, the legal framework develops and makes it possible to implement the joint and national interests of the CIS countries, including in various formats of interaction, Pavel Muraveiko said. He also mentioned gradual improvement of the professional training of commanders, officers of various categories of air defense troops of the armed forces of the parties to the agreement on the establishment of a unified air defense system in the CIS.

“The CIS member states conduct joint operational and combat training activities. The most important are the Combat Commonwealth joint live-fire exercises. The member states also carry out joint air defense combat duty as part of the complex task to protect the airspace and the air border of the CIS,” the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces added.
