CIS MFAs discuss cooperation on human rights in international organizations

MINSK, 20 February (BelTA) – The CIS Executive committee played host to the ministerial consultations to discuss cooperation on human rights in international organizations on 20 February, BelTA learned from the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.

The participants to the meeting discussed the current state of inter-state cooperation in the protection and promotion of human rights, stressing the inadmissibility of confrontation and politicization, the use of selective approaches and double standards in assessing the human rights situation in individual states.

The representatives of the Foreign Ministries stressed the importance of deepening multilateral interaction and coordination of efforts of the CIS member states to ensure mutually respectful constructive cooperation, dialogue of states in the field of human rights and countering further politicization of the work of human rights bodies and UN mechanisms.

The consultations confirmed the importance of further efforts aimed at preserving historical truth and countering attempts to rewrite the outcome of the Second World War, including support for the draft resolution on “Combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance”, submitted annually by Russia to the UN General Assembly.

The parties emphasized the importance of providing mutual support to the candidates nominated by the CIS member states for election to the UN bodies, and also active nomination of candidates of the CIS countries to the UN human rights bodies of limited membership.

The parties reaffirmed the willingness to continue joining efforts to resolve human dimension problems in the OSCE.
