MINSK, 28 August (BelTA) – Kyrgyzstan has played host to a meeting of heads of criminal divisions of the ministries of internal affairs of the CIS countries. The Belarusian delegation was led by Deputy Head of the Main Criminal Investigation Department of the Internal Affairs Ministry Sergei Yakubel, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry.
The forum participants discussed the modernization of the interstate criminal investigation mechanism and also coordinated efforts in the fight against organized crime, terrorism and drug trafficking. In addition, the parties took stock of joint operational and preventive measures. The issue of filling the Interstate Information Bank with photo and video images of persons on the interstate wanted list was discussed as well. The meeting participants also studied the experience of using modern technologies to search for perpetrators.
A proposal was put forward to conduct scientific research in interstate criminal investigation, to develop a unified closed network for the exchange of operational information, and ensure a more active use of genetic information to identify missing persons and unidentified corpses.
During the exchange of views, the delegation of the Belarusian Internal Affairs Ministry shared the experience in the use of biometric identification systems for wanted citizens, as well as technologies for recognizing vehicle registration plates. Belarus, in cooperation with the Office for the Coordination of the Fight Against Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Types of Crime on the Territory of CIS member-states, suggested developing an interstate agreement to improve the mechanism for deporting citizens or declaring their presence in the territory of a state undesirable.
