CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting  underway in Minsk

MINSK, 12 April (BelTA) – The CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting is underway in the Belarusian capital.  Delegations from nine countries have come to Minsk to attend the event, BelTA has learned.

 The foreign ministers will focus on current issues of the international agenda and interaction in the CIS. Meetings of the delegations will be held in narrow and expanded formats.

The participants of the CIS Foreign Ministers Council meeting will discuss the draft convention on the legal status of delegations to CIS member states, the sports capitals of the CIS in 2025 and 2026, and the status of CIS basic organizations in the field of military security research, in the field of university sports and in the field of training, retraining and advanced training of judicial personnel.

There are plans to adopt statements on ensuring safe working conditions for journalists and preventing infringement of their rights, on the 30th anniversary of the CIS observer status at the UN General Assembly and on the terrorist attack committed near Moscow on 22 March 2024. 

The meeting will review progress to implement the plan of the CIS multi-level ministerial consultations and the action program to intensify partnerships between the foreign ministries of the CIS states in 2023.

During an extended meeting, members of the Foreign Ministers Council will consider instituting a common anniversary medal “80 years of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.”
