CIS foreign ministers commemorate 80th anniversary of Great Patriotic War outbreak

MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) - The countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have launched a social media campaign to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great patriotic War. The video of the campaign was posted on the Facebook official account of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the hashtag #ВОВ80, BelTA has learned.

"80 years ago, on 22 June 1941, the war came to the homes of the multi-ethnic Soviet Union. It affected all. For every people of the USSR the war turned into a national tragedy. Today, the people's poets will remind, in the voices of the CIS foreign ministers, of the horror of war and the heroism of the defenders, the treachery of the enemy and the resilience of our ancestors, the sorrows of losses and tears of joy of Victory! We, in the CIS, remember, honor and cherish the peaceful heritage!" the ministry stressed.

The foreign ministers recited poems about the war in their native languages. Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs recited a poem by Yakub Kolas "To the Defenders of the Native Land”.

The campaign was initiated by Belarus as the country presiding in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2021.
