MINSK, 13 November (BelTA) - Cooperation in education is one of the main areas of interaction between Belarus and China, and we are ready to strengthen it so that as many young people as possible can learn Chinese, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Zhang Wenchuan told the media at the Chinese Ambassador Award ceremony for Belarusian schoolchildren and students at Belarusian State University of Physical Education on 12 November, BelTA has learned.
Before the event, the ambassador was shown the university infrastructure. “All the facilities made a very deep impression on me. Belarusian State University of Physical Education is one of the leading universities, which has trained a large number of outstanding specialists and athletes. China-Belarus cooperation in education is one of the main areas of interaction, to which the leaders of our states pay great attention. We see significant results,” Zhang Wenchuan said.
The recent results include the establishment of the Chinese-Belarusian Association of Universities, and the organization of the first Forum of Rectors of Universities of Belarus and China. “Now there are more than 1,000 Belarusian students studying in China, and about 12,000 Chinese students studying in Belarus. Their number is constantly increasing,” Zhang Wenchuan added. “There are seven Confucius Institutes and two Confucius Classes in Belarus. The Confucius Institute at Belarusian State University of Physical Education has been established jointly with Lingnan University. The university provides programs in the Chinese language teaching, sports and Chinese culture. The embassy gives high praise to its work.”
The Chinese Ambassador Award was established in 2016 to support young people in learning Chinese language and culture. It has already been awarded to about 300 schoolchildren and students.
“The embassy is ready together with Belarusian friends to strengthen cooperation in education to train highly-qualified specialists,” Zhang Wenchuan added.
