Chalk pits, snails, honey. Best factory tours in Grodno Oblast

GRODNO, 20 March (BelTA) - About 190 enterprises of Grodno Oblast offer both tourist and career-oriented tours, BelTA learned from the Sports and Tourism Department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.

“Industrial tourism projects cover 187 enterprises of Grodno Oblast,” Deputy Head of the Sports and Tourism Department Tatyana Lidyayeva said. “The most active are Volkovysk District, Grodno District, Lida District, Korelichi District and Smorgon District. The enterprises located in these areas maintain close ties with travel agencies. Visits to these enterprises are included in many tour itineraries.”

According to Tatyana Lidyayeva, each factory tour has its highlights. A visit to the museum of Krasnoselskstroymaterialy, for example, will give an insight into the enterprise’s history. The enterprise’s tour to the well-known chalk pits attracts travelers from all over the country. Visitors to Grodno District get a chance to learn about a honey production process as part of the Honey Sommelier excursion at the Myadovy Shlyakh enterprise in the agro-town of Porechye. The tour also envisages the tasting of honey with a variety of additives - from berries to medicinal herbs. Visitors to the Ratov farm in Korelichi District can get familiar with snail farming, and also taste some of original dishes.

“In fact, factory tours are fascinating,” the deputy head of the Sports and Tourism Department said. “For example, children are especially fond of visiting Lidapishchekontsentraty to watch the staff in action at various stages of the production of corn sticks with different flavors. Travelers also can visit Glassworks Neman in Berezovka to see the process of making beautiful products from glass.

According to Tatyana Lidyayeva, in 2024 a total of 137,900 people visited the region's enterprises on excursions. The number of visitors reached 114,200 in 2023. Factory tours earned the region more than Br1.6 million in revenue, up 66% from the previous year. There are plans to expand services in this area in the coming years. Museums and museum rooms are soon to be opened in Korelichi-Len, as well as at the enterprises of Lida District, including a dairy canning factory, a shoe factory, Novogrudok Metalware Plant. The museum at Smorgon Aggregate Plant is getting renovations.
