
MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - The CEC has registered an initiative group in support of the nomination of Aleksandr Lukashenko as a presidential candidate. This decision was made at a meeting of the CEC of Belarus, BelTA has learned.
Head of the Department for Legal, Analytical and Methodological Work at the CEC Yelena Grigorovich recalled that the documents to register the initiative group to collect voters' signatures in support of the nomination of Aleksandr Lukashenko as a presidential candidate were submitted to the CEC on 26 October.
"The submitted
documents meet the requirements of Article 61 of the Electoral Code of the
Republic of Belarus. Aleksandr Lukashenko meets the presidential candidate requirements
set out in the Constitution and the Electoral Code of the Republic of Belarus," Yelena Grigorovich said.
"The Central
Election Commission of the Republic of Belarus rules to register the initiative
group of Aleksandr Lukashenko, born in 1954, President of the Republic of
Belarus, living in the city of Minsk, no party affiliation. The group shall be
assigned registration number No.1. The draft resolution instructs the CEC staff
to issue appropriate certificates and signature lists for collecting voter
signatures to the head, coordinators and members of the initiative group,"
Yelena Grigorovich added.
The presidential election in
Belarus is scheduled for 26 January 2025.
