CEC names most common questions, remarks from voters during Belarus’ 2025 election

MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – The presidential election in Belarus was preceded by very serious preparations, Head of the Department for Legal, Analytical and Methodological Work at the Central Election Commission (CEC) Yelena Grigorovich said in the latest episode of BelTA’s project “The Nation Speaks”.

“The preparations for the presidential election were very meticulous. It is not for nothing that national and international observers gave such a high assessment. Moreover, not much time passed since the single voting day, and on that day the organizers of the election, for example, members of precinct and territorial commissions, national observers could implement the changes made to electoral laws in 2023,” Yelena Grigorovich said.

According to her, the CEC received very few verbal and electronic remarks and suggestions from citizens. “The remarks were very few. For example, during signature collection, voters called and asked: ‘Where can I leave a signature to support the nomination of this or that candidate?’ We asked the persons seeking to become presidential candidates to give us phone numbers of members of their initiative groups, the so-called campaigns, and gave them to voters. This way voters could find out where to put a signature in support of a nominee. When mass events were held, for example, meetings with voters and pickets, citizens also called to ask about their location. In other words, these questions have nothing to do with compliance or non-compliance with the law. Voters asked how they could take part in the election, where they could leave a signature, where they could see the election programs of the presidential candidates,” she said.

“For example, the presidential candidates who were party leaders used their websites to post updates about their campaigning, and in this way voters could learn where they held their meetings. Telegram and other messengers, as well as social media were used, too. A lot of information was distributed via the Internet,” added Yelena Grigorovich.
