MINSK, 8 April (BelTA) - Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko commented on the elections of members to the upper house of the Belarusian Parliament as he talked to the Belarus 1 TV channel on 7 April, BelTA has learned.
"Eight members of the Council of the Republic are elected by every region of our country, including the city of Minsk, and eight members of the Council of the Republic are appointed by the president," Igor Karpenko recalled.
The members of the Council of the Republic were elected on 4 April. "In all regions, the base-level local councils of deputies held relevant meetings," the head of the CEC said. "The Central Election Commission will convene for a meeting on 9 April and will sum up the results of the elections of members of the Council of the Republic."
The CEC of Belarus will also call the first session of the Council of the Republic.
