CEC: Election to upper house complies with Belarusian legislation 



MINSK, 9 April (BelTA) - The election of members of the Council of the Republic corresponded to the Belarusian legislation, Chairman of the Belarusian Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko said at a CEC meeting in Minsk on 9 April, BelTA has learned.

"In fact, with today's meeting, we are completing the process of forming the Belarusian Parliament in accordance with the updated Constitution, which was adopted in a referendum in 2022. A total of 56 members of the Council of the Republic were elected. I would like to remind you that in accordance with the law, the president has the right to appoint eight representatives to the Council of the Republic," Igor Karpenko said.

"Members of the Central Election Commission of Belarus were present at all meetings," the head of the CEC added. "In general, we can say that the documents that were presented to us, and the procedures that took place to elect members of the Council of the Republic, complied with the Belarusian legislation."
