CEC chair: Early voting is proceeding normally

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) – Early voting is proceeding as normal, Chairman of the Central Election Commission Igor Karpenko told journalists. On 23 February he voted at polling station No. 5 in Minsk, BelTA has learned.

“Voting is going on as usual. The CEC has not received any remarks. There were appeals where people asked to vote at the precinct where they reside instead of the precinct where they are registered. We would like to remind voters that if they want to vote at the precinct where they reside they need to present a proof of residence,” Igor Karpenko said.

According to him, a precinct commission considers each case individually. “Moreover, they should make a decision whether to include a voter into the voter list or not promptly, because they are pressed for time ,” the CEC head said.

Early voting will be running in Belarus till 26 February. Polling stations are open from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00. On election day, 27 February, voters will be able to cast their ballots from 8:00 till 20:00.
