Call to give fresh impetus to Belarus-Turkmenistan trade and economic relations

ASHGABAT, 24 May (BelTA) – It is necessary to achieve another milestone in Belarus-Turkmenistan trade and economic cooperation, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said following his meeting with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, BelTA has learned.

“We have reviewed the bilateral relations and have come to the conclusion that the economies of Belarus and Turkmenistan are going through a very important stage of post-pandemic recovery. The president of Turkmenistan spoke highly of the trust-based partnership between our countries. I briefly outlined the main promising avenues for our cooperation, primarily in trade and economy. The president supported our proposal to give a renewed momentum to our cooperation in this area. We agreed to hold the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in the very near future,” said Roman Golovchenko.

He also noted that cooperation in the humanitarian field has made a lot of progress. “There is an intensive exchange of delegations of artists and athletes. Belarusian athletes participate in competitions in Turkmenistan, athletes from Turkmenistan take part in sports events in Belarus. Belarus is a very attractive destination for Turkmenistan’s students. Currently, several thousand Turkmen students are enrolled at Belarusian universities in the most popular specialties, like medicine, engineering, information technology. Next year we expect even more Turkmen students to come. I have assured the president of Turkmenistan that Turkmen students will receive the best possible training and learn skills that they will be able to successfully use in their homeland,” the prime minister remarked.
