MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – It is necessary to work out an R&D program of the Union State of Belarus and Russia for the sake of involving young people in scientific endeavors. Chairman of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus Aleksandr Shumilin made the statement during a solemn assembly dedicated to the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia, BelTA has learned.
In his words, the program can be created under the aegis of the Council of Young Scientists of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the Belarusian national youth union BRSM. Apart from that, two or three young researchers should be included into the commission in charge of forming the common R&D space of the Union State of Belarus and Russia for the sake of better understanding of project financing processes.
The official went on saying: “Within the framework of the Union State of Belarus and Russia we endeavor to create an effective ecosystem, in which all the participants could improve their qualifications, win grants, and share ideas. Nevertheless, we should put every effort into helping young researchers clearly see the development trajectory and into offering better terms for fully realizing the creative, scientific, human, and innovative potential of young people. Because the effective realization of the scientific and innovative potential of young people is one of the criteria of successful development of our states.”
Aleksandr Shumilin also stated that the State Science and Technology Committee and the Science and Higher Education Ministry of Russia are discussing prospects of giving grants to young scientists for the sake of internship in the most prestigious universities and academic R&D institutes of Belarus and Russia.
Every year Belarus and Russia arrange dozens of events in various spheres of cooperation, including R&D cooperation, which is a key area in the matter of the Union State. By the way, dozens of joint R&D programs were fulfilled in the years of development of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. Many R&D products have already earned international recognition.
Seven R&D programs of the Union State of Belarus and Russia were in progress in 2020. Those included Technology-SG, which allows reducing the outside dimensions and energy consumption of rocket and satellite components, increasing the capacity of accumulators, and increasing the lifespan of spacecraft. The assimilation of results of the R&D program will reduce the mass of spacecraft by 5-15% per annum and save considerable amount of money spent on space rocket launches.
One of the key accomplishments of the Spinal Systems program is early detection (virtually in the first year of their lives) of patients with progressive deformations of the spine. Clinical data and molecular genetics research methods can predict how the innate deformities will develop as the child grows with a 75% degree of precision. The program is focused on making one surgery to correct the deformities unlike Western technologies, which rely on a series of surgeries.
Aleksandr Shumilin said: “I have no doubt that future cooperation in the sphere of science and technologies will contribute to the steady development of the innovative sphere in the entire space of the Union State of Belarus and Russia.”
