MINSK, 15 March (BelTA) – Proposals to amend the Constitution should be assessed carefully and cautiously, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly, member of the Constitutional Commission Vladimir Andreichenko told reporters on 15 March, BelTA has learned.
Vladimir Andreichenko emphasized that the Constitution is a very serious document, the foundation of the legal system of any state, and the current Constitution is still relevant at large. Work on amendments to this important document should be comprehensive and thorough. “Therefore, the Constitutional Commission has arduous work to do. Proposals should be approached very carefully and assessed critically. Much of what has been done may not require amendments. There are many conflicting proposals that have already been received,” Vladimir Andreichenko said.
According to the speaker, among the possible amendments to be discussed is holding a single voting day. This initiative came from the public and is meant to help save public funds.
Vladimir Andreichenko drew attention to the fact that the Constitutional Commission included representatives of various fields of expertise: lawyers, parliamentarians, members of public associations, representatives of the real sector of the economy. “The commission has a lot of work ahead,” said the speaker. As for the time frame, it is necessary to summarize all the proposals by August-September 2021, “so that there will be enough time to discuss this project with the public and then present the finalized version at a referendum”, which is scheduled for early 2022.
“We are determined to keep working to enable the country to move forward, to keep the society united, and to maintain peace, calm and harmony in the country,” Vladimir Andreichenko concluded.
