Brest Oblast to triple tourism promotion spending in 2020

BREST, 26 December (BelTA) – Brest Oblast will increase spending on tourism products promotion by three times in 2020, head of the main finance department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Dmitry Gorodetsky said at a joint session of the committee and the Brest Oblast Council of Deputies on 26 December, BelTA has learned.

“In order to make Brest Oblast more attractive as a tourist destination, we will allocate Br453,000 to implement activities under the Marketing of Travel Services sub-program of the state program Hospitable Belarus. Although the sum is not high, it is three times as large as before. I believe that efficient use of these funds will help promote our tourism products and increase contribution of the travel industry to the economy of the region,” Dmitry Gorodetsky noted.

In 2019, Brest Oblast expects to welcome around one million tourists (including domestic tourists), which will be 20% up over 2018. So far, around 35,000 tourists visited Brest Oblast under the visa-free travel program in 2019, which was twice as many as in 2018. Export of travel services is projected to grow by more than 14% in 2020.

Development of the tourism industry will be in focus of the 5th International B2B Contact Fair BREST 2020. The forum will draw representatives of travel companies and regional administrations from Poland, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, and other countries. The program of the forum will include presentations of tourist potential of Brest Oblast cities and districts, investment projects in tourism, talks, and a series of workshops.

Participants of the joint session also discussed the social and economic development forecast and the budget of Brest Oblast for 2020.
