BREST, 2 April (BelTA) – More than two million trees will be planted in Brest Oblast during the Forest Week nationwide campaign to be held on 3-10 April, Deputy Head for Ideology at the Brest State Forestry Production Association Ilya Shpak told BelTA.
A total of 331 land plots covering an area of more than 403 hectares will be landscaped. Planting material has been prepared; these are mostly seedlings of pine, spruce and birch. Reforestation will be carried out in areas affected by last year's windbreak in Malorita, Brest District and Kobrin District, as well as other locations. Garbage, dry branches and fallen trees will be removed, rest areas and military graves will be put in order.
“During the Forest Week campaign last year, more than 1.3 million trees were planted on 273 hectares in Brest Oblast. Over 6,000 people took part in the campaign. I think this year the campaign will bring together just as many people or even more,” Ilya Shpak said.
Taking part in the campaign are labor collectives, public associations and volunteers. Families with children come to plant their own trees. Everyone can take part in the environmental campaign and contribute to the greening of their homeland. Volunteers will be provided with planting material and the necessary equipment.
