
BREST, 9 May (BelTA) - Thousands of people came to the central streets of Brest to watch the Victory Day parade, which kicked off the festivities in the regional center on 9 May, BelTA has learned.
More than 450 people took part in the parade. These were soldiers of Brest garrison - servicemen of the 38th Guards Airborne Assault Brigade, 115th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment, 111th Guards Artillery Brigade, 48th separate battalion of electronic warfare. Border guards, representatives of the Brest Oblast Department of the Emergencies Ministry, Department of Protection and Internal Troops of the Internal Affairs Ministry, students of cadet classes and military-patriotic clubs, representatives of the Memorial Post, reenactors acting as partisans and front-line soldiers marched through the streets of Brest. Three bands accompanied the parade.



The spectators saw 62 units of weapons and military hardware, including those from the Great Patriotic War. Front-line motorcycles, vintage cars, ZIS-3, 45-mm anti-tank cannon were on the display of the Brest parade. The attention was also focused on an reenactment installation of the Great Patriotic War.



The mechanized column demonstrated the equipment of the current defenders of the Fatherland. For example, soldiers of the 38th Brigade showed armored vehicles Dragon, armored personnel carriers BTR-80, BTR-82, 120-mm and 82-mm mortars, BM-21 rocket artillery fighting vehicles. The 115th Air Defense Missile Regiment presented the legendary S-300 missile systems, which guard the air borders of Belarus, including Brest. Servicemen of the 111th Guards Artillery Brigade showcased 2a65, 2s5 cannons and the Uragan multiple rocket launcher system.



Three rehearsals were held prior to the Victory Day celebrations. “We tried to make sure that samples of hardware from the Great Patriotic War were on display, too. We made a focus on the reenactors acting as front-line soldiers and partisans. We showed the strength of our Armed Forces and other security agencies. The participation of cadets and students of military-patriotic clubs is important as a symbol of the continuity of generations,” military commissar of Brest Oblast Aleksandr Samarevich said.



The parade kicked off from Lenin Square. The participants of the parade marched along Lenin Street, Masherov Avenue. The military were joined by Brest citizens and guests of the city, including participants of the Belarus Remembers commemorative campaign. The joint procession finished in the Brest Hero Fortress memorial.
