MINSK, 31 January (BelTA) – The statement by the EU’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Ukraine truce is outrageous, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said as she talked to Radio Sputnik, TASS reported.
“This is another outrageous statement. Well, this is Borrell,” the diplomat said.
Maria Zakharova noted that this kind of statements are also negatively viewed within the EU. “They see this in the same way. With a different subtext, with a different emotional coloring, but they say the same thing: ‘This is Borrell’. They realize that his statements are not even marginal, they are insane,” she stated.
Such a thought should be “generated with great difficulty”, as it “contradicts the essence of diplomatic work,” she added.
Earlier, in an op-ed for France’s L’Obs magazine, the EU’s top diplomat Josep Borrell rejected the idea of a ceasefire in Ukraine. “These ideas were wrong in 2022, and they remain wrong today,” he said.
