Border authorities: Situation at Belarusian border is stable, under control

MINSK, 19 August (BelTA) – The situation at the Belarusian border is stable and under control, Chairman of the State Border Committee of Belarus Major General Anatoly Lappo said as he addressed border service personnel, BelTA learned from the State Border Committee.

“Belarus has found itself in a difficult situation. We are witnessing how easily our peaceful and quiet life can be rattled. However, despite the tension, the situation at the Belarusian border is stable and under control. It is of special importance now,” Anatoly Lappo said. “On behalf of the State Border Committee, I would like to thank you for good service. Thanks to the devotion to our duties, we have been able to perform the most difficult combat and operational tasks in guarding the state border. We wear our military uniform with pride. It has not been tarnished. We are proud of the glorious history of true courage and bravery of Belarusian border guards,” he added.

At present, the main task is to strengthen the border security, Anatoly Lappo stressed. “We must foil attempts to bring weapons, explosives, and drugs into the country or let in anyone who can harm or endanger the lives of our citizens. In such a time, illegal groups might become active, we might face various provocations, including against border guards. Be on the alert. Remember: you protect your nation. You swore an oath. You are responsible for the country's security today. I believe that each and every one of you will fulfill your duty till the end. We should stand together, from a soldier to a general. Our servicemen have always been and will always be true to the traditions of our border service,” he said.
