MINSK, 27 February (BelTA) – U.S. blogger Mario Nawfal named the key message of the interview given by Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko as he shared his impressions of the conversation with journalists, BelTA has learned.

The blogger noted that in recent years, many Western journalists had the opportunity to ask the Belarusian president questions but, in the blogger's opinion, it was biased Gotcha journalism, with a lot of cherry-picking aimed to please their bosses. All this served to increase the rift between the East and the West, between Russia and the United States, between the European Union and Belarus.
However, Mario Nawfal himself believes that it is necessary to maintain dialogue and find ways to communicate in any situation. “It’s true, there is something in Belarus that Europeans don't like. Likewise, there is something in the European Union that Belarusians don't like. But it is important for all of us to not lose sight of the fact that we have much more in common than what divides us. You and the Europeans live on the same continent, you are interconnected, trade continues. I am sure that we need to communicate. If there were more conversations like today’s, perhaps there would not be these conflicts that we are seeing now. Russia is your main strategic partner, your ally. But Ukraine was also a trading partner of yours. Belarus is a European country, it is located in Europe. Therefore, it is necessary to find ways to mend relations and come to terms,” he said.

Sharing his impressions of the conversation with Aleksandr Lukashenko, the blogger called the conversation incredibly interesting. “I believe that the audience should hear what President Aleksandr Lukashenko has to say, what he thinks about the current situation,” he said.
When asked about the key message that the Belarusian head of state conveyed during the interview, Mario Nawfal said: “The most important thing is that he wants peace.”
“The key thing I came away with after the conversation with the president is that he wants peace. He mentioned that he treated kindly the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. And I realized that he does not just talk about peace, he genuinely wants it,” the blogger said.
The journalists asked the blogger how his sees the path to sustainable peace, long-term agreements in a situation when the foreign policy of Belarus and Russia has remained consistent and clear for decades, while the EU and the United States are flip-flopping all the time.
“You can't be sure of anything. All kinds of people come to power in Europe and the USA. So there is no certainty. But what I know for sure is that Trump is delivering on his promise to bring rapid and sweeping change and this seismic change will be very hard to reverse. This concerns the normalization of relations with Russia. And another point: people are starting to wake up to the reality and realize that the world is not black and white, that every coin has two sides. This black-and-white thinking is wrong. The world is much more nuanced,” the blogger said.
