Bill on state protection of judges, officials in Belarus passes second reading

MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) - The bill on judges, law enforcement and supervisory (monitoring) officials, employees of the state guard service passed second reading at the session of the seventh-convocation House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on 16 April, BelTA has learned.

The bill was submitted to the House of Representatives on 31 March 2021 and passed first reading on 2 April.

The draft law adjusts the definitions of terms enshrined in Article 1 of the law on state protection in order to cover officials as fully as possible. The bill envisages the possibility of state protection of servicemen of the Armed Forces. A new category was included in the list of protected persons, which reads other persons subject to state protection due to infringement against their security. The bill ensures a uniform approach to the use of references to service activities in the norms of the law on state protection.

The bill also fills a gap in the legal regulation of the application of a security measure in respect of protected persons in the form of confidentiality of information without the existence of a threat in connection with their entry into office or appointment to office (being in office). A new version of Article 23 of the law on state protection “Material Compensation” was introduced.
