MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) - The bill "On amending the laws on the protection of sovereignty and the constitutional order" is very timely, Belarusian Minister of Internal Affairs Ivan Kubrakov told the media in Minsk on 17 June, BelTA hads learned.
The bill "On amending the laws on the protection of sovereignty and the constitutional order" passed the first reading at a meeting of the fifth session of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus on 17 June. The bill provides for amendments to the laws "On the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus," “On the State of Emergency" and "On Martial Law".
"The bill is very timely. Before making proposals, we analyzed the events that took place in our country in 2020, and also in other countries, including CIS countries. We analyzed how we would have to act if we were to impose a state of emergency or martial law. Following this analysis, we saw that some laws needed amending,” Ivan Kubrakov said. “Therefore, I believe that this bill is very timely. It is designed not only to stop mass riots or some other adverse events but, first of all, to prevent and counter threats and challenges to our country.”
