BelTA’s chief: VIDEOBEL.BY can be an example for similar platforms in BRICS

MOSCOW, 14 September (BelTA) - The multimedia portal VIDEOBEL.BY developed by BelTA can be an example for similar platforms to be set up in BRICS, BelTA Director General Irina Akulovich told the media on the sidelines of the BRICS Media Summit in Moscow on 14 September, BelTA has learned.

“VIDEOBEL.BY is an example of a platform we can control, where we can work and speak our mind without fear that it can be blocked or removed at any moment. I believe that countries that have similar views, that are determined that the world should not be unipolar, should set up similar platforms. It should be done not only in their own countries, but also in such organizations as BRICS. We need to have an opportunity to exchange content there with a clear understanding that nothing will be removed,” Irina Akulovich said.

In her words, it is not enough to set up an information product on the internet today. “One needs to know how to promote this resource. I am often asked how materials can be uploaded on VIDEOBEL.BY. It is not enough to upload it. It is also necessary to make time codes and promote it. This is very serious work, but it has to be done and promoted in all countries. I think that BRICS should have such a platform. In any case, this will be the first step. We should do it, not talk about it. BRICS is a force capable of influencing the future of the planet,” the BelTA director general said.

The BRICS Media Summit is taking place in Moscow. The event is attended by heads of the leading BRICS media organizations, as well as media outlets of the countries that have applied to join the association and cooperate with it. These are more than 120 representatives of 60 media outlets from 45 countries. One of the most important objectives of the BRICS Media Summit is to counter information threats aimed at spreading misinformation about the BRICS activities and discrediting it. The program of the forum will include panel sessions featuring experts and officials. The events will be dedicated to the role of the BRICS media community in strengthening stability and cooperation in a multipolar world, as well as technological aspects of information interaction between the BRICS countries. The summit will conclude with the adoption of a final declaration on 15 September.

The BRICS Media Forum is a non-governmental, non-profit platform for dialogue between leading media outlets of the BRICS member states. It was established in 2015 on the initiative of Xinhua News Agency. The BRICS Media Forums are held in the country presiding over the BRICS, with Russia presiding in the organization from 1 January 2024. In 2024, the forum will be held for the first time in a new status - in the format of a media summit. It is organized by the TASS agency, which celebrates its 120th anniversary this year.
