BelNPP generates over 25bn kWh of electricity 

KHOINIKI DISTRICT, 15 February (BelTA) – The Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) has generated more than 25 billion kWh of electricity, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich told the media at the event to present the pilot project on additional electrification of the agro-town of Veliky Bor, Khoiniki District on 15 February, BelTA has learned.

The project has been implemented to transfer residential houses to the use of electric energy for heating, hot water supply and cooking. The project made part of the state program on mitigating the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.

“This is a pilot project. The initiative has been supported by the head of state. It is an important step to introduce electric heating in small settlements. This means the comfort of living in houses, coziness and warmth, and a serious stimulus in the social and economic development the region in general, and small settlements in particular,” the minister said. 

According to Viktor Karankevich, the BelNPP has also given an impetus in this area. “In total, this facility has already produced more than 25 billion kWh of electricity, which replaced about 6.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas,” he said.

“The country has created favorable conditions for the transition to the use of electric energy for heating purposes. These are preferential tariffs for households, partial reimbursement households’ costs and expenses, which arise from the purchase of electric heating equipment and its installation,” the minister added.
