Bells of remembrance. Khatyn Memorial Day is commemorated in Belarus

LOGOISK DISTRICT, 22 March (BelTA) - Today the Khatyn memorial complex is holding events dedicated to the 82nd anniversary of the tragedy of the Belarusian village. The events began with a liturgy and reqem in the church in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, BelTA learned. 

The Belarusian village was burned down together with its149 inhabitants, among whom were 75 children, by the executioners 82 years ago, on 22 March 1943. On the day of commemoration people are coming to lay flowers at the memorial which was opened in 1969. Everyone who wants to pay tribute to the ancestors who died unconquered goes to Khatyn, which has become a symbol of remembrance and sorrow.
The first wreath that was laid at the Eternal Flame was from the President of the Republic of Belarus as a symbol of the fact that the whole country is mourning today, remembering the residents of Khatyn and other Belarusian villages that shared its fate. There were 288 such villages in Belarus. More than 12,000 were destroyed partially or completely. 
Flowers are being laid at the Eternal Flame and the Unconquered Man sculpture by top government officials, representatives of ministries and departments, public organizations, regional delegations, and young people. Today there are many Belarusian families, guests from Russia and CIS countries in Khatyn.
Special bus service No.659 is shuttling from Minsk to the khatyn memorial complex.
