MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin honored the Belarusian servicemen for services to cooperation within the CSTO. In addition, the minister presented colonel's epaulettes to officers of the Armed Forces in a ceremony on 5 February, BelTA learned from the Defense Ministry.
During the ceremony, the minister noted their contribution to the country's security and the development of military and political cooperation within the framework of the CSTO. "In accordance with the established practice in the CSTO, the Collective Security Council annually honors officials and public figures of the member states. These are the people who have made a significant contribution to maintaining international peace and stability, strengthening collective security and developing cooperation among the member states of the organization. It is gratifying that today we honor the servicemen of our army, who carry out active and fruitful work to develop and deepen military and political cooperation in the CSTO," Viktor Khrenin said.
The minister also noted that the honorees had achieved high results in their service. "Many years ago, starting out as lieutenants, hardly any of you knew how the future path would turn out. However, the unwavering desire to grow and develop, the unwavering desire to serve the Fatherland bore well-deserved fruit. Having chosen a difficult but honorable profession - to defend the Motherland - you have achieved high results in service. Recognition of these results is the presentation of state awards and the high military rank of colonel," the minister emphasized.
Viktor Khrenin also pointed out the symbolism of the fact that the ceremony was held after the most important state event - the president election in Belarus. "The results of this most important social and political event have once again confirmed that our country is an independent state. The Commander-in-Chief has repeatedly noted that ‘time chose us’. These words are a call to action. Each of us, realizing the enormous responsibility, must do everything to increase the glorious traditions of the Armed Forces," the minister said.
