MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) – We need to do our best to channel the youth's energy into constructive work, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said at the opening of the fifth session of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the seventh convocation on 2 April, BelTA has learned.
“Great attention is paid to the youth in Belarus. The solution of the problems which concern young people is an integral part of the state policy in the social, economic, cultural and national development of the country. However, the events which have been recently taking place in the world, including those that affected our country last year, indicate purposeful attempts to use young people in destructive anti-social actions. In this regard, we must place special emphasis in our work on the continuity of traditions and fostering responsibility and patriotism among young people. It is necessary to channel all the bubbling energy of young people into constructive work,” said Natalya Kochanova.
The speaker added that there are about 60 youth parliamentary organizations in the regions. “Last summer the Youth Parliament under the National Assembly was formed with our support. The potential of such organizations should be used to the maximum in order to strengthen the interaction between the authorities and the youth. Young people have already put forward a number of initiatives which deserve attention and support. The first Belarusian Youth Parliamentary Forum has already been held, and the results of the national contest The Team of the Future were summarized within its framework. A new youth public association, Movement Forward, has been set up. The implementation of such projects contributes to the disclosure of creativity and leadership qualities of young people, the preparation of the managerial talent pool,” she stressed.
The informational and educational project STEP is becoming a promising format of interaction between the members of the Council of the Republic and students. “Young people have become frequent visitors to the Council of the Republic. School students need an open conversation and dialogue. It arouses a keen interest in parliamentary activities and the functioning of state institutions in general. This is a very good initiative, which must be continued and further developed. At the suggestion of the primary organization of the Belarusian Union of Women, which has recently been established at the Council of the Republic, meetings have been held with cadets of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Mogilev Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and also students of the Polotsk College. We need to continue meeting with young people, to inform them about our activities, to promote the formation of legal culture and skills of assessing social and political events in the country and the world among young people,” Natalya Kochanova said.
