Belarusian schools celebrate Mother Language Day

MINSK, 21 February (BelTA) – The International Mother Language Day is celebrated in Belarusian institutions of general secondary education every year on 21 February to preserve the native language as the cultural heritage of the Belarusian people, the press center of Belarus' Education Ministry told BelTA.

Thematic educational hours, conferences, seminars, literary chat forums, Belarusian language weeks, contests, creative meetings with people of art, scientists and writers are organized on this day. Other events may include book fairs dedicated to Belarusian writers, new issues of wall newspapers and fiction books presentations. Students take excursions in the Belarusian language in virtual museums, ethnographic or mini-museums and also arts and crafts centers.

On this day schools post on their websites the information about the Belarusian language and literature and interesting information about the life and work of poets, writers and other famous people of Belarus.
