
MINSK, 22 April (BelTA) – The Belarusian Railways company suggested resuming passenger traffic with Lithuania, Latvia and Poland at the 39th meeting of the Conference of General Directors (Authorized Representatives) of OSJD Railways in Warsaw, BelTA learned from the press center of Belarusian Railways.
The event was attended by the heads (authorized representatives) of 23 railways and OSJD affiliated enterprises. The Belarusian Railways delegation was led by First Deputy Head of Belarusian Railways Aleksandr Khoroshevich.
“Belarusian Railways addressed the members of the OSJD Conference of General Directors from Lithuania (in absentia), Latvia and Poland with a proposal to resume direct passenger traffic en route Belarus-Lithuania, Belarus-Latvia, Belarus-Poland,” the press center said.
The meeting participants took stock of the organization's performance and discussed the development of international freight and passenger transportation in the Eurasian space. Key tasks were outlined to deepen cooperation in information technologies and infrastructure development, to update and improve the regulatory legal framework in order to increase the competitiveness of railway transport.
Belarusian Railways has been a member of the Organization for Cooperation between Railways (OSJD) since 1992. The active OSJD members are the transport ministries and central state bodies in charge of railway transport of 28 countries: Belarus, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, DPRK, Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Czech Republic and Estonia.
