MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) - In January-June 2025, Belarusian Railways transported 28 million passengers, First Deputy Head of the Transport Services at Belarusian Railways Valery Matskel told BelTA.
“Every day, around 1,300 trains operate on the Belarusian Railways network. Of these, about 650 are passenger trains and roughly 600 are freight ones. This allowed us to carry 28 million passengers and 45.5 million tonnes of freight in January-June 2025,” he said.
Ahead of Railway Workers’ Day, Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko visited the transport control center of Belarusian Railways. The speaker studied the operations of the center and met with the railway's workforce.
“The transport control center is a structural unit of Belarusian Railways responsible for managing all transportation processes, including freight and passenger trains,” Valery Matskel noted. “The key feature of the new system is the consolidation of decision-making power within Belarusian Railways. Previously, there were three levels of management, but now there are only two. This means that dispatchers at the control center directly oversee transportation at the station level, and the intermediate level of regional divisions has been removed from the operational process. This reorganization has allowed for the release of a significant number of personnel who were previously involved in train operations, and has accelerated decision-making processes.”
The national transport leader, Belarusian Railways, manages 5,500 kilometers of track (over 25% of which is electrified), transporting over 100 million tonnes of cargo annually. It handles more than 200,000 tonnes of daily freight at over 200 stations and employs around 60,000 professionals across more than 300 different occupations and specialties.
