MINSK, 5 March (BelTA) – The Office of the Prosecutor General has forwarded a criminal case against four authorized representatives of the former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to the Gomel Oblast Court, BelTA learned from the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus.
According to the criminal case, the accused acted in collusion with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to make plans for mass riots in Gomel, plans to capture buildings of municipal authorities, and plans to appoint their own heads of municipal administrative bodies.
Apart from that, one of the accused faces charges of publicly insulting a police officer.
The accused were arrested on 6-8 August 2020.
After studying materials of the criminal case the Prosecutor General's Office concluded the charges are justified, circumstances of the crimes had been thoroughly and objectively investigated, and the actions are properly qualified.
The Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus has also sent a request to the Prosecutor General‘s Office of Lithuania for the extradition of Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to Belarus where she will be prosecuted for crimes against the order of government, public security, and the state. The source noted that Belarus-Lithuania bilateral cooperation in the sphere of criminal justice relies on the bilateral agreement on legal aid and legal relations in civil cases, family cases, and criminal cases of 20 October 1992.
