MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian industrial group Belorusneft and its electric vehicle charging network have won the international competition Green Eurasia, taking top honors in the category “Climate-Neutral Transport Systems and Solutions”. The award ceremony was held at the Eurasian Economic Forum in Minsk on 26 June, BelTA has learned.
The competition’s expert panel and presidium praised Belarus’ comprehensive approach to developing electric charging infrastructure, which combines innovative technologies, government support, and an effective business model. They also praised the State Portal for the Installation of Charging Stations, launched on 1 May 2025. According to Belorusneft, these recognitions confirm that Belarus is setting trends in sustainable transport across the post-Soviet space. The country is actively implementing global transformation tools, including the development of smart grids, autonomous transport, and carbon-free energy.

Nowadays, Belarus is rightfully considered one of the leaders in electric vehicle transport among CIS countries. The charging network created by Belorusneft is the largest in the Eurasian Economic Union. Over the past year alone, the number of electric vehicles in the country more than doubled: from 9,866 to 23,166. In January-May 2025, the number of EVs increased by 8,400, which was nearly 2.5 times more than in the same period of 2024.
According to forecasts by Belorusneft, the number of electric vehicles in Belarus is expected to reach 48,000 by the end of this year and 300,000 by 2030. This rapid expansion has been made possible thanks to the coordinated efforts of state institutions and a well-developed infrastructure. Key roles are played by the Economy Ministry, which implements legislative initiatives to create favorable conditions for the sector, and the Energy Ministry, which oversees the construction of power grids for the operation of fast and ultra-fast charging stations of the state provider. These efforts ensure that EV owners can travel freely across Belarus with access to a reliable charging network.
The State Portal for the Installation of Charging Stations is a unique tool in the region. It allows investors to easily identify optimal locations for station placement, obtain all necessary documentation, and monitor the process from application to installation. The portal connects all charging stations installed by various legal entities into a strong infrastructure network comparable in scale to a national operator.

“This level of consolidation not only creates a unified ecosystem, but it also effectively forms a new major player in the market, capable of competing with leading Belarusian charging networks, particularly in the slow-charging segment. The portal is driving explosive growth in the widespread development of charging infrastructure, acting as a catalyst for industry transformation. This approach offers significant advantages: users gain access to a broad and reliable network, while the sector itself benefits from standardization, optimized logistics, and greater service transparency. In the long term, such consolidation could accelerate the transition to electric transport, as a reliable and evenly distributed charging network helps eliminate one of the biggest barriers: range anxiety. By pooling resources, previously fragmented assets are transformed into an infrastructure asset comparable in scale to a national operator,” Belorusneft noted.
The project, which won the Eurasian competition, helps Belarus fulfill its commitments under the Paris Agreement and the National Action Plan for Green Economy Development. According to company estimates, by 2040 the initiative could attract $150 million in investment, expand the number of charging stations to 50,000, and reduce harmful CO₂ emissions by 2 million tonnes annually.
