MINSK, 1 April (BelTA) - Deputy Commander of the aviation squadron of the 50th mixed aviation base Vitaly Selchonok revealed how Belarus provided assistance to earthquake-stricken Myanmar, the Belarusian Defense Ministry told BelTA.

"Due to destruction and disruptions in the operation of radar systems, some sections of the route were navigated without radio communication. The airport area is almost completely unlit, making air navigation more challenging. We arrived at night, so it was impossible to see the devastation. But at the airport we saw people who had lost their homes. They were sleeping directly on the ground in the open air. The flight was difficult, but our challenges are nothing compared to what the people of Myanmar are going through. The most important thing for us is that we delivered aid to them," Vitaly Selchonok said.

He also stressed that this was his first such experience. The route took 12 hours and 55 minutes to cover a distance of 8,720 kilometers.
