MINSK, 28 May (BelTA) - The Belarusian People's Congress is suggested to be given the right to assess the validity of the presidential election, Chairman of the Constitutional Commission and Chairman of the Constitutional Court Piotr Miklashevich told the media on 28 May, BelTA has learned.
“The Belarusian People's Congress as a body of broad popular representation is proposed to be granted the right to assess the validity of the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus presidential election and thereby act as a guarantor of an objective assessment of the will of the people in the presidential election. Thus, the final political and constitutional-legal assessment of the elections will be expressed by a special subject of political and legal relations - the supreme representative body of the people's power - the Belarusian People's Congress,” said Piotr Miklashevich.
The Constitutional Commission held its fifth meeting on 28 May. The commission considered issues related to the constitutional status of the Belarusian People's Congress and the constitutional provisions on the local government and self-government system.
