MINSK, 20 September (BelTA) - The Belarusian People's Congress is a guarantor of stability and civil harmony in the country, Belarus’ CEC Chairman Igor Karpenko said at the plenary session of the international conference "International Standards in the Electoral Process: Experience and Development Prospects", BelTA has learned.
"The agenda of the conference includes issues of security and digitalization of the electoral process, participation of civil society in elections, raising legal awareness of young people. These topics are undoubtedly important and all of them are considered in the context of ensuring electoral sovereignty. It is no coincidence that this concept is reflected in the Concept of National Security of the Republic of Belarus as an inalienable and exclusive right of the state to independently organize and hold elections and referendums in order to ensure the exercise of the sovereignty of the people and the freedom of their choice under the supremacy of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and national legislation, to prevent interference in the electoral process," Igor Karpenko said..
"The new constitutional body - the Belarusian People's Congress is a guarantor of stability and civil harmony in the country and will stand guard over our electoral sovereignty," the head of the CEC said. The people's congress has deep historical roots and originates from the veche traditions of the Polotsk Principality, and draws on the experience of the peasant community, urban self-government and early parliamentarism, the Soviets and the Congress of People's Deputies.
