Belarusian Parliament speaker calls to popularize cleanup day tradition

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – A team of the House of Representatives headed by Speaker Igor Sergeyenko are landscaping the green space between Pritytskogo Street and Odoevskogo Streets in Frunzensky District of Minsk as part of the national cleanup day in Belarus on 20 April, BelTA has learned.

Trees and shrubs will be cut here and the grounds will be cleaned. Before the start of the cleanup, the MPs visited the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow".

"This is a forested park. Members of the House of Representatives and employees of the secretariat are working today to improve this space. Several teams are working here. The goal is to remove branches in order to make it a good recreation area for Minskers,” Igor Sergeyenko said. “Members of the House of Representatives from other regions are working in their hometowns. Here we have a fairly large team of about 50 people. Good weather, good spirits."

According to him, cleanup days are very important. "They make our life even better. We landscape spaces yards and other facilities. This is a well-established tradition. We need to preserve it and popularize it among young people," he stressed.

"Every time we work in different places on the cleanup day: tidying up war graves, planting trees or landscaping. It's different every time. In the future, I think we will choose a facility or a place that we will be responsible for. We will take patronage over it of sorts," Igor Sergeyenko added.
