
MINSK, 28 April (BelTA) - A Belarusian parliament delegation led by Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Igor Sergeyenko has arrived in Volgograd to take part in the Union State international forum "Great Heritage – Common Future", which will be held on 28-29 April, BelTA has learned.
The forum was initiated by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State and approved by the Union State Supreme State Council.


The event is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. It will serve as a platform to discuss the preservation of historical memory, countering attempts to distort facts about the Great Patriotic War and World War II, and fostering patriotic education among young people.
Participating in the forum will be parliamentary delegations from over twenty countries, including CIS member states and friendly countries of Europe, Asia, and Latin America, as well as public figures, academics, and international experts.

The parliamentary delegations will lay flowers at the Eternal Flame on Mamayev Kurgan. The forum’s program will also feature an event called "The Light of Great Victory" to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The forum will include two plenary sessions and sectional meetings, which will focus on topics “Preserving and protecting the common historical memory” and “The patriotic upbringing on the basis of historical knowledge”. A joint meeting of the Youth Chamber under the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State and the Youth Parliament under the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation is also planned.

Opinions on the protection of historical truth and the preservation of historical memory about the Great Patriotic War expressed during the forum will be reflected in a Statement by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The statement is expected to be adopted at the 68th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union State scheduled to be held in Brest in June 2025.
The plenary session of the Union State international forum "Great Heritage - Common Future" will take place on 29 April.
