Belarusian nuclear power plant to get second reactor pressure vessel in September

OSTROVETS, 23 August (BelTA) – The reactor pressure vessel for the second power-generating unit will be delivered from Russia to the Belarusian nuclear power plant in September, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Energy Minister Mikhail Mikhadyuk on 23 August.

The official said: “We will have to start installing reactor equipment of the second power-generating unit this autumn. The reactor pressure vessel is supposed to arrive in September. We will begin installing it by the end of the year.”

The reactor pressure vessel and all the four steam generators of the first unit have already been installed. The main circulation line of the first unit has been welded. It was a key event in preparations for commissioning the first power-generating unit.

According to Mikhail Mikhadyuk, all the contracts on delivering core equipment have been signed. A considerable part of the equipment has been sent by manufacturers on its way to Ostrovets. Equipment for the nuclear power plant passes many quality assurance steps at every stage of the manufacturing process and when it arrives at the construction site, stressed the official.

Participants of the media tour focusing on Belarus-Russia interaction in nuclear energy visited Ostrovets District on 23 August. The media tour is scheduled to take place in Belarus on 23-24 August. Mass media representatives will visit the nuclear power plant information center and will be made familiar how the town where the Belarusian nuclear power plant's personnel will reside is being developed and expanded. The reporters will also meet with representatives of the construction brigade of Belarusian and Russian university students. Then the reporters will visit the nuclear power plant's construction site. The media tour has been organized by the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia and the National Press Center of Belarus.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the Russian standard 3+ generation design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
