Belarusian MPs to observe elections to Russia's State Duma

MOSCOW, 14 September (BelTA) - Belarusian MPs will join the delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Belarus-Russia Union State to observe the elections to the State Duma of Russia on 17-19 September, BelTA learned from the press service of the Parliamentary Assembly.

“Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly as part of the CIS observation mission will take part in the monitoring of the parliamentary elections in the Russian Federation. The delegation will be headed by Chairman of the International Affairs and National Security Commission of the Council of the Republic, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly Commission on Foreign Policy Sergei Rachkov,” the press service said.

The delegation also includes Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on International Affairs Oleg Gaidukevich, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Legislation Aleksandr Omelyanyuk, Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on International Affairs Olga Petrashova and member of the Council of the Republic Standing Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance Andrei Shishkin.

“The MPs of the Parliamentary Assembly will visit polling stations in Moscow, where they are expected to observe the voting. They will also hold meetings with the leadership of the factions of political parties in the State Duma and with the representatives of the Central Election Commission of Russia. They also plan to meet with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the Russian Federation Vladimir Semashko,” the press service said.

“Sergei Rachkov, the coordinator of the Parliamentary Assembly delegation, will take part in a session of the CIS observation mission coordinators to prepare a final document on election observation, which will be presented at a press conference in the Central Election Commission of Russia on 20 September,” the press service added.
